Maximize Your Military Education Benefits with Florida Tech Online

At Florida Institute of Technology, we recognize the unique sacrifices and commitments of active-duty service members, veterans and their families, and we are proud to support your academic journey with a dedicated team, flexible online programs and a range of accepted military education benefits. Whether you are currently serving or pursuing a civilian career, Florida Tech is here to help you make the most of what you have earned. Veterans and benefit-eligible dependents are encouraged to apply for federal student aid and may be eligible for institutional aid in addition to their VA benefits. We recommend that all students complete a FAFSA application each year, regardless of their VA status, so they may review the aid options available to them. VA benefit eligibility does not impact federal aid eligibility, and we want to maximize your options for financial assistance.

Florida Tech’s Military and Veteran Student Services (MVSS) team, including dedicated advisors and school certifying officials, is committed to helping you understand your eligibility, navigate the certification process and connect your benefits to the right programs. From your first inquiry to your final course, you won’t have to navigate this process alone.

Education Benefit Details

Florida Tech accepts a comprehensive range of military education benefits for active-duty service members and veterans. Benefit eligibility varies based on your branch of service, discharge status, length of service and other factors. These overviews are intended as a starting point. Our MVSS team is available to help you understand your eligibility and determine which benefits may apply to your specific situation. Florida Tech does not require eligible students to use Post-9/11 GI Bill® and/or Yellow Ribbon1 benefits. VA benefits are only utilized at the student’s request.

GI Bill

Florida Tech accepts several chapters of the GI Bill, which may provide eligible veterans, service members and their dependents with funding for tuition and fees, and a stipend for books and supplies. The following GI Bill chapters are accepted at Florida Tech:

  • Montgomery GI Bill Chapter 30: Provides monthly education benefits to eligible veterans who served on active duty. Benefit amounts are paid directly to the student and vary based on training time and length of service.
  • Veteran Readiness and Employment Chapter 31 (VR&E): Provides education, training and employment services to veterans with service-connected disabilities who need assistance preparing for, finding or maintaining suitable employment.
  • Post-9/11 GI Bill Chapter 33: Provides assistance covering tuition and fees up to the national maximum, and a stipend for books and supplies of up to $1,000 per year. Benefits are paid directly to the institution and the student.
  • Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve Chapter 1606: Provides education benefits to members of the Selected Reserve, including the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve and the Army and Air National Guard.

To begin using your GI Bill benefits at Florida Tech, you must first request your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the VA at VA.gov and submit it to Florida Tech's MVSS team at or call 321-674-8036. Our school certifying official can assist with questions about your benefits.

Florida Tech participates in the VA Yellow Ribbon Program, a voluntary agreement between Florida Tech and the VA designed to assist with tuition. Students eligible for Chapter 33 benefits at the 100% benefit level, with remaining entitlement, may qualify. Florida Tech contributes funds toward the remaining balance and the VA matches that amount, potentially reducing out-of-pocket tuition costs for eligible veterans. Learn more about the Yellow Ribbon Program at VA.gov.

Your military training and experience may qualify for college credit at Florida Tech. Submitting your Joint Services Transcript (JST) or CCAF transcript allows Florida Tech to evaluate credit for qualifying military experience, potentially reducing your required coursework and overall cost.

Submit transcripts to Florida Tech's Registrar at [email protected] or to the Office of Admission, 150 W. University Blvd., Melbourne, FL 32901.

Military Tuition Rates

Florida Tech is committed to making high-quality degrees accessible for military-affiliated students. Active-duty service members, enrolled in eight-week online degree courses, may be eligible for Florida Tech's Wisdom Warrior discounted tuition at $250 per credit hour, designed to align with standard Tuition Assistance (TA) coverage provided by most branches of service, making it possible to complete your degree with little to no out-of-pocket cost.

Tuition Assistance is available to eligible active-duty service members and is applied directly to tuition costs. Coverage amounts and eligibility requirements vary by branch. Before your courses begin at Florida Tech, you must contact your military branch education counselor or education service officer for details on tuition assistance eligibility and the specific branch process for the submission of the TA authorization form. TA cannot be applied retroactively after a term starts.

Student Responsibilities

As a military-affiliated student using education benefits at Florida Tech, there are a few important responsibilities to keep in mind throughout your enrollment:

  • Keep MVSS informed. Notify Military and Veteran Student Services of any changes to your course enrollment or degree program as soon as possible. Any debts resulting from a reduction or termination of registration are the student’s responsibility.
  • Understand what can be certified. Only courses that apply directly to your degree program are eligible for VA certification. Repeated courses will only be certified if a satisfactory grade has not previously been earned in that course.
  • Review your billing statement. Florida Tech students are financially responsible for any tuition or fees not covered by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Please note that parking fees, meals and housing are not VA-billable expenses and must be covered by the student.
  • Monitor your remaining benefit entitlement. Keep track of how much of your benefit you have used and plan for when your benefits may be exhausted. We recommend all students create an account on eBenefits.

MVSS is available to answer questions and guide you through the process. Contact [email protected] or call 321-674-8036.

How to Get Started

Step 1

Step 1 - Gather All Necessary Documents

The best first step is simple: apply. Once your application is submitted, move quickly on the following as processing times vary and starting early helps ensure everything is in place before your first term begins. Request your military transcripts (JST or CCAF) right away, as they must be sent directly to Florida Tech's Registrar at [email protected] or to the Office of Admission, 150 W. University Blvd., Melbourne, FL 32901 and cannot come to you first. If you plan to use GI Bill® benefits, request your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the VA at VA.gov as soon as possible, ideally the same day you apply. Tuition Assistance (TA3) authorization requires specific course and term details, so that step will follow acceptance.

Step 2

Step 2 - Timeline Expectation

After submitting your application, Florida Tech's admission team will review your materials and notify you of your acceptance decision. Once accepted, your MVSS advisor will work with you to confirm your benefit eligibility and begin the process to certify enrollment with the VA on the student's behalf. Processing times for VA benefits and TA authorization can vary by branch and benefit type, so we encourage you to begin gathering documents and submitting requests as early as possible.

Step 3

Step 3 - Benefits Certification Process

The certification process varies depending on which benefits you plan to use. Students who plan to use Veteran Education benefits must submit a valid COE to MVSS, which will then certify their enrollment with the VA. Active-duty service members must submit a TA request and receive an approved authorization from their branch at least seven days prior to the start of courses. TA cannot be applied after a term has started. VR&E recipients should work with a VA counselor to obtain program approval before enrolling.

Step 4

Step 4 - FIT Military and Veteran Student Services Support

You do not have to figure this out alone. Florida Tech's MVSS team is here to guide you through every step of the enrollment and benefits process, from confirming eligibility and submitting documentation to answering questions throughout your program. Reach out to MVSS at [email protected] or call 321-674-8036 anytime you need support.
